Newsflash 4: The feature documentary film, Angels in Exile, a film about street children and the work of Umthombo, our partner, and also featuring Charlize Theron doing the voiceover, has just premiered at the Santa Barbara Film Festival to rave reviews. It was filmed over a seven year period. Food 4 Thought is proud to be partnered with Umthombo Street Children.

Food 4 Thought KZN is a “foodie” network aimed at bringing restaurants and “good food” lovers together, and in doing so empowering street children in Kwa-Zulu Natal. We call it Sociable Development!
Our first partner organisation that we support is Umthombo Street Children, who work with children from all over KZN that have found themselves living on Durban’s city streets. They are well known for fusing high-intensity engagement through activities such as surfing with psychosocial support to address the children’s trauma.

All our participating member restaurants have agreed to automatically add an optional 1% donation, to all customer bills. 100% of the proceeds will be passed to Umthombo Street Children, a dynamic KZN-based organisation empowering street children. No deductions or administration fees. This money will be used solely for supporting the valuable work of Umthombo.
Customers not wishing to pay the 1% can simply and discreetly cross out the 1% on their bill and it will be immediately deducted by the waitron…no fuss…no pressure!
‘Food 4 Thought’ is committed to ensuring that:
- Umthombo receives 100% of all money raised, without any deductions. In return we will ensure that all donations are invested wisely. Members receive updates on how their hard earned cash has made a difference to the lives of the children at Umthombo.
